Trusted Cancer Care When You Need It Most

A cancer diagnosis is always daunting, but through innovative services, highly-trained specialists and compassionate support, Baptist Health will help you and your family members navigate each step of your treatment. As the state’s largest provider and most trusted name in care, we make sure you have access to the services needed to detect cancer early, as well as the treatment you need to feel confident in your fight against the disease.

Early Detection and Diagnosis

Discovering cancer at the earliest stages offers the best opportunity for successful cancer care and treatment. At Baptist Health, we promote early detection through an array of screenings and diagnostic services. Whether it’s offering screening exams or holding health-education events in the community, prevention and early detection is an integral part of our comprehensive cancer care in Arkansas.

In addition to early detection, accurate diagnosis is a crucial part of developing an effective treatment plan. Our oncologists have the expertise to diagnose and plan a comprehensive treatment strategy through the services below:

  • Advanced imaging technology – Computerized tomography (CT or CAT scan), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound imaging (sonography), positron emission tomography (PET), PET/CT scanning and other advanced imaging technologies provide a detailed picture of internal organs and tissues to detect cancer.
  • Breast cancer detection – Baptist Health offers sophisticated breast imaging technologies such as digital mammography and breast MRI, which can play an important role in early detection of breast cancer.
  • Biopsy – Biopsies determine whether cells are cancerous and if so, determine the type and stage of cancer. Advanced imaging technology — such as MRI, CT and ultrasound — are often combined with minimally invasive techniques to obtain tissue samples.
  • Lung cancer detection – Through a range of state-of-the-art surgical and nonsurgical technologies, Baptist Health is equipped to detect lung cancer as quickly and accurately as possible.

Radiation

Every patient receiving radiation at Baptist Health is given a unique treatment plan that maximizes the dose to the tumor while reducing exposure to the normal healthy tissues, resulting in a better quality of life during and after the course of treatment. Using advanced technology, including IMRT, IGRT and radiotherapy, we offer some of the most progressive cancer care treatment in the region. In fact, Baptist Health Radiation Oncology-Fort Smith is the first center in Arkansas to treat multiple types of cancer using specialized technology.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy, also known as medical oncology or hematology, uses chemicals to destroy or slow the growth of cancer cells, and is often used in conjunction with surgery to destroy surrounding tissue after a tumor is removed. Though chemotherapy often comes with side effects that could include nausea, fatigue and hair loss, our multidisciplinary team of primary care doctors, oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurses, pain management specialists, dietitians and other professionals work together to make your cancer care as comfortable as possible.
