Sparks Welcomes New Surgeon

(July 25, 2012) - Sparks Health System is pleased to welcome a new cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon to our exceptional team of heart and lung care specialists.

Beginning August 1, David Miller, DO, FACOS, will be available for appointments. He is board-certified in Heart, Lung and Vascular Surgery.

Dr. Miller brings unique talents to our region. He will be the only surgeon in the area who performs “beating heart” surgery without the use of a heart and lung machine. This technique can mean faster recovery times, fewer complications and better outcomes for patients. Dr. Miller also specializes in complex heart valve repair surgery and surgical treatments for atrial fibrillation.

“I feel fortunate to be able to do what God called me to do,” said Dr. Miller. “I believe reputation is the most important factor in building a practice, and I don’t believe in making patients wait.”

Dr. Miller received his medical degree from the Oklahoma State University College of Health Sciences and underwent additional training in cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. Before joining Sparks, Dr. Miller served as the Chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiovascular Services at a Tulsa hospital that was ranked by HealthGrades as the number one cardiac surgery program in Oklahoma in 2008 and 2009.

Dr. Miller, his wife and youngest child are excited to relocate to Fort Smith, where they hope to find time to enjoy some golf and tennis.

Dr. Miller will see patients at the Sparks Cardiothoracic & Vascular Clinic, located at 923 Lexington Ave. in Fort Smith. For more information, or to make an appointment, call (479) 709-7025.
