FORT SMITH, AR (May 2, 2013) – Sparks Health System is delighted to announce our commitment to providing outstanding stroke care is again being recognized.
The American Heart Association has awarded Sparks Regional Medical Center with the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award acknowledges the Sparks stroke care team’s success in implementing a higher standard of care by ensuring stroke patients receive treatment adhering to nationally accepted guidelines provided by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
This is the third year in a row Sparks has achieved Stroke Gold Plus status and the eighth year the hospital has been recognized by the Get With The Guidelines program.
Stroke treatment guidelines set forth by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association are aimed at reducing death and disability, and improving the lives of stroke patients. Measures include starting patients on aggressive risk-reduction therapies, antithrombotics and anticoagulation therapy, cholesterol reducing drugs and smoking cessation counseling.
To be eligible for the award, hospitals must maintain established measures at a set level for a designated period of time. Sparks is being recognized for a time of compliance from January 2011 to December 2012.
Sparks Regional Medical Center is a Certified Primary Stroke Center and has earned the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission.
