Interventional Neuroradiologist Joins Sparks

(June 27, 2012) - Sparks Health System is thrilled to welcome a new physician to our award-winning stroke team.

Clint Wood, MD, is a fellowship-trained interventional radiologist who specializes in neurovascular treatments. Wood’s expertise in endovascular neurosurgery means Sparks is now the only medical facility in this region of the country that provides complete neurovascular care. For stroke victims, that means comprehensive expert care for any stroke of any severity.

“I’m impressed with the talented physicians Sparks has brought to the region,” Dr. Wood said. “With a comprehensive neurovascular team, if a treatment is done anywhere in the world, it’s done here.”

For strokes, Dr. Wood will utilize the most cutting-edge devices that physically retrieve blood clots from blocked arteries. He also specializes in treating intracranial aneurysms using minimally invasive “coiling” techniques.

“I’m still amazed that we can fix an aneurysm in the middle of the brain, and the patient can go home the next day with nothing more than a Band-Aid,” said Wood.

Dr. Wood treats a number of other conditions such as vertebral compression fractures, peripheral vascular disease, aortic aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and uterine fibroids. He will also work closely with area oncologists to provide the latest in minimally invasive cancer treatments.

A Natural State native, Dr. Wood is an honors graduate of the University of Arkansas and an avid Razorback fan. He attended medical school, residency and fellowship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. When he gets a chance, he enjoys hunting and golfing.

Dr. Wood will begin treating patients July 9.
