PNEUMONIA

As with many diseases, early detection and quality treatment are the cornerstones of successful treatment for pneumonia. Medicare and Joint Commission have requested hospitals manager processes related to Pneumonia treatment and to collect and submit data pertaining to these processes. Medicare has termed these treatments as ‘Core Measures’ and these treatments can aid in maximizing the likelihood of survival after the onset of pneumonia symptom. These are measures include:

  • • Oxygenation assessment
  • • The patients should receive antibiotics within six hours of admission
  • • The collection of blood cultures,
  • • Appropriate and timely antibiotic administration,
  • • Influenza and Pneumococcal immunizations.
  • • Smoking cessation counseling.
