Senior Care Behavioral Health Services

SeniorCare Behavioral Health is unique in our region. In fact, there isn’t another geriatric psychiatry inpatient program within a 60-mile radius of Fort Smith.

But that’s not the only thing that sets the program apart. This 23-bed unit was designed by a multi-disciplinary team whose first order of business was to identify the combination of diagnostic and therapeutic services and features that would best benefit their patients.

The program, which features a comfortable 23-bed inpatient unit, complete with open areas for group and individual activities, recreation and dining, specializes in the acute care of dementia, depression and other mental health concerns of adults age 55 and above. And the program’s progressive therapies and multi-disciplinary approach seek to address the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of each patient.

The program involves psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, behavioral health nurses, nursing assistants, nutritionists, licensed certified social workers, speech pathologists, recreational therapists and other healthcare professionals.

Some of the program’s more distinctive features include:

  • • A “test apartment” that is used to remotely observe and evaluate a patient’s ability to live independently.
  • • A solarium, where patients can benefit from light therapy (especially important for depression patients), plant therapy and quiet therapy.
  • • Memory windows positioned outside each patient room. These are window boxes in which patients can place treasured items that help them feel more at home and serve as visual cues to help them remember which room is theirs.
  • • Regularly scheduled games, recreational therapy and activities.
  • • Remote monitoring/observation capabilities.
  • • Large gathering spaces, with comfortable furnishings – even an aquarium and a large-screen television.
  • • Individual, family and group therapy sessions.
