MAKOplasty® Total Hip Arthroplasty is an innovative surgical treatment option for adults living with non-inflammatory or inflammatory degenerative joint disease. It is powered by the RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System, which allows surgeons to achieve a new level of accuracy and precision using the latest techniques in total hip replacement. In Arkansas, the technology is only available at Sparks Regional Medical Center.

Accurate placement and alignment of implant components are critical factors in hip replacement. RIO® robotic arm-assisted Total Hip Arthroplasty uses the patient’s CT scan data to reconstruct the anatomy and create a patient-specific surgical plan for optimal implant alignment and placement. During surgery, the patient’s hip joint is registered and matched with the surgical plan to provide dynamic information. Robotic arm guidance, 3-D visual feedback, and real-time data assist the surgeon in achieving more accurate positioning of implants to improve outcomes and decrease the likelihood of mechanical failure.
